Be An Important Part of Bronx History
The Bronx County Historical Society, founded in 1955, is a private, non-profit, educational and cultural institution chartered by the NYS Board of Regents. The Society, the historical agency for The Bronx, a county of New York State and a borough of the city of New York, is dedicated to the collection, preservation, documentation and interpretation of the history of The Bronx from its earliest historical references in the 17th century to the present.
The Society’s mission of service to the community is fulfilled through public education at our Research Library, and Bronx County Archives, exhibitions, teacher-training programs for educators and school administrators, outreach programs for schoolchildren as well as for public and private venues, and in the operation of our two historic landmark house museums, Valentine-Varian House/Museum of Bronx History and the Edgar Allan Poe Cottage, final home of Poe, one of America’s greatest writers.
Your financial support of The Bronx County Historical Society – by joining us as a member, purchasing books and gifts of history in our museums and online Store, or contributing directly to our Society’s fundraising campaigns - enables us to care for our historic structures and collections and provide quality programming and services to New Yorkers interested in the rich history and heritage of the Borough of The Bronx.
